Cruisers off to a flying start!

Round 1 of the Shepparton Junior Soccer Association was very exciting for the Congupna Cruisers teams!

Perfect weather and lots of enthusiasm from all the children contributed to a fun filled weekend. There was lots of encouragement and fancy foot work on the field and with teams made up of children from our cluster schools, it is a great opportunity for them to mix and make new friends.

Under 6’s

We had a full team for our first game and the excitement to play was very high. We have 6 Congupna players and 2 from Katandra West on our team. There was a lot of goals scored by both teams and

everyone had a lot of fun. Pizza Award went to Alex for his never giving up attacking. He weaved the ball in between all the St Mels kids before booting it into the net for 1 of his 2 goals. The encouragement award went to Rueben for the best defence I have seen in a long time. In the second half he saved about 5 certain goals when St Mels looked certain to score each time.

Under 7’s

The Under 7’s had a great start to the Season and our three Katandra West recruits mixed well with single Congupna and Zeerust students. A total of five players rotated through our four on-field positions and they all had a great time! The final score was 12-2 and our goal scorers were Tom (4), Kai (3), Dayne (3), Narley (1) and an Own Goal (1).The Pizza Hut Award went to Narley for making friends with his new teammates so quickly and the Encouragement Award went to Dayne for his ability to ‘Backheel’ passes!

Under 8’s

No Report was supplied for this week but we will chase one up for next week. I have been informed by one of the young Cruzers that the U8’s played St Mels and Coach Linton put Amaia in the goals. She was very happy with this as she got to wear some warm clothes! The scores ended up 4-3 and the Cruzers had a good win.

Under 10’s

What a wonderful start to this year’s soccer season.  The weather was lovely, the ground was dry and the kids had a wonderful time, running around and getting to know each other.  Our U10’s played against Wilmot Rd with the final score 7/0, Cruzers way.  Everyone had loads of fun and it was great to be back out on the soccer field.

GO CRUISERS, Coach Jarman.
