Bangerang Cultural Centre Excursion

Our whole-school excursion to the Bangerang Cultural Centre was fantastic.

Our tour guide/presenter/musician was Roland and he did a fantastic job engaging the children with some very interesting local stories about land management, food collection, tribe boundaries, hunting, battles between tribes, transport and building materials.

Our students all had a go at the didgeridoo and clapping sticks and passed around some very impressive stone axes, cooli bags, woomeras (spear throwers), coolamons (wooden baskets), boomerangs, digging sticks, shields and waddies (clubs).

The Possum Skin Cloak on display was a highlight – it was the same one presented by our local people at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games and consisted of 30 individual possum skins sewn together.
